about

Some of the most fun I ever had in my musical life was this brief period that existed as Carpe Diem was fizzling out and Kevin and I found ourselves jamming with a different sense of purpose. Kevin would wail on the drums, picking up whatever I felt like throwing at him, and I would bang on a cranked-up Gibson 335, filtered through a wah-wah pedal, and we would go into these long strings of songs, and work up new ideas and whatever came to mind. These are the sorts of things that would happen almost every day, for at least an hour or two. This particular session is one of only two or three recordings that exist of those jams. Which I consider to be a huge shame and one of the reasons why, by the time we had Ebb together, every note we ever played would be preserved.

That said, the lack of quantity makes the ones that we do have all the more memorable, and precious. This set features passes through many of our standards at the time, as well as an embryonic version of the three-day-old "The Biggest Dance Hall In The World", as well as the only recording of us jamming on "Three Is A Magic Number" (i was way into Schoolhouse Rock at the time). The freewheeling nature of these sessions were amazing and I only wish that we had gotten up the nerve to gig as a duo (it would be a few years before guitar/drums duos would be a thing). Fortunately this recording exists.

Rounding out this set are a few songs played solo, which was recorded either immediately before or after the duo session. Those were crazy days but they were fun.

Chris Anderson - BG Alexandria, Virginia

Bootleg Records is my way of organizing recordings that wouldn't be considered for release on the Flying Dachshund Music label. Songwriting demos, outtakes, live sets, band projects, pseudonym projects, and experimental sessions are what can be found on the BG label, The kind of stuff that would be bootlegged. What started out in 2005 as a limited run of 20 titles has grown to 200 and counting.... ... more
