SCENE BY SCENE way down in the south, she's begging and i'm still waiting i can't believe that she has gone down no hope, no savior no one can save her her souls lay in the ground scene by scene on the wrong side of town beneath a lady lay the gold from the years to hold back the tears of the newborn dreamer's dream call a voice to carry the truth lies buried i saw her demon swell catch a glimpse of evening innocence leaning words i knew too well scene by scene on the wrong side of town beneath a lady lay the gold from the years to hold back the tears of the newborn dreamer's dream -October 1995

ALICE you take your time up in your full moon where all your pages seem undone and i've been running, lord he'd like to see me fall but he knows i am not the one and she's still crying on the inside at all his fears she'd left behind i saw the world form there another two ticket ride through the backsides and in between no, now the world is falling at your feet will it all come down? and all your fault lines waiting they just don't seem to fit me in though i pretend to listen it don't mean a thing it's what you swore to bring but i never learned to sing i saw her crumble there too tanked to find out where he left her hiding so long ago now, now the world is crying at your door will it all come down? no, now the world is dying on your floor when will it all come down? -10/15/95

I WAIT FOR DAY hold me down, you dreamer hold me down, you wretched soul hold me down, redeemer hold me down, then let me go she's on her way why did she have to throw it all away and then she turned and ran so far away and some found out and some found out where she'd gone i wait for day lay me down, contest me lay me down, for some, no good lay me down, arrest me lay me down and steal my soul she's on her way why did she have to throw it all away and then she turned and ran so far away and some found out and some found out where she'd gone i wait for day hold me down, legato hold me down, for what you've seen hold me down, bravado hold me down and let me in she's on her way why did she have to throw it all away and then she turned and ran so far away and some found out and some found out where she'd gone i wait for day -November 1995

SIMONE (part three) she left a riddle strange alone beseiged a lullaby for all scenes of lame and castaway into the days could never look for real what's real behind those images you hide? you know, you're never quiet alone simone - see me away alone simone - i cannot see simone - see me out on sunday's tune she sold her soul for bread and wine attacked her conscience for a ride scenes of blind faith, so real to drift on silver sheets and feel the slide in images you hide insane, it's never quite the same simone - feel you way alone simone - i cannot hear simone - hear me out on sunday's tune sunday's tune someday soon i may write she begged an angel for her rites and cried to sleep with open eyes scenes of pretense and now foundation's weak, it starts to fall in fall, you'll only fall alone your image shatters on the floor simone - sing to me back home simone - i don't wanna know simone - lead me out on sunday's tune leave me shadows on your tomb and i remember the first day now leave me shadows on your tomb and i remember the last day well leave me shadows on your tomb and lead me out on sunday's tune -March 1995

about

The mid-90's were a much different time in the land of FDM. Songs were being written and music was always being played, either alone or with others, but there did not often exist, within reach, any means of recording these ideas. The thought of writing a song and not being able to preserve it immediately, but instead having to constantly play it over and over again so I wouldn't forget it (which still did not always work).....that is scary to think about nowadays. But that's how it was back then.

On this particular day, my friend Mike Loftus brought his dad's video camera over, so that we could make a film of Carpe Diem playing in the basement. That set, and that video, is one of the more epic things of its time. Afterwards, everyone left but the camera remained, so I set it up and filmed myself playing some of my newer songs. The video itself is hilarious. Over the course of seven songs, I changed my setting (all within my room) three times, and I changed my hair three times as well. This is back when I had super long hair and it was pretty out of control. Musically, this session found me exploring a few songs that would not get recorded for release for 22 years, as well as one time-worn song, a Grateful Dead cover, and a couple of improvised jams.

This audio was extracted from the VHS that was dubbed off of the original 8mm cassette. It is quite possible that the original tape has more to it (i seem to remember playing "Indian Spring" and maybe even "Panama And Myra") but trying to find a means of playing those tiny little tapes nowadays is next to impossible. One of these days that tape will be found, and a better transfer of both this and the Carpe Diem set will be sorted. Until then, there exists this little document of just a few moments in the life of me, on this evening so long ago.

about

Chris Anderson - BG Alexandria, Virginia

Bootleg Records is my way of organizing recordings that wouldn't be considered for release on the Flying Dachshund Music label. Songwriting demos, outtakes, live sets, band projects, pseudonym projects, and experimental sessions are what can be found on the BG label, The kind of stuff that would be bootlegged. What started out in 2005 as a limited run of 20 titles has grown to 200 and counting.... ... more
