One of my favorite traditions is a Halloween-themed performance known as TREATfest. Originally this was an annual party that we would throw that featured awesome food and live sets from myself, as well as others. We did maybe four or five of these, over the years, and eventually the concept was taken to the live stage. As many other bands and artists do, one of the features of TREATfest sets is an onslaught of cover songs that are learned specifically for the show. Some shows have had a few covers thrown in while others are exclusively covers.

This set comes from the brainstorm and practice sessions for the 2013 TREATfest show, which was held at Fireflies (as they all were). Many songs were worked up for that show though only a handful made it into the final set. In fact, I think the only song from this set that wound up being played in the show was "Cold Cold Hearts", which is one of the coolest songs ever.

The TREATfest shows were always fun to perform but the preparation, despite being a bit taxing at times, was always the best part. As someone who generally doesn't mess with cover songs, it's always a blast to work up the tunes, explore them, break them down to their core, and approach them like I would my own songs. Music is fun.
