PRIVACY i walk this subtle monument a memoir of another life a life i left behind pardon me, as i shall walk away and dream upon another day another frame of mind what you say cannot affect me now but what you do can anger so forget me now what you hear and what i say to you may not amount to anything so leave me now yes i know, i know that time moves on flare dog baby has an open book a chapter torn and sold to you resting in your head filthy secrets garnish everyday like everyday was yesterday yeah, that's what she said the passage to utopia is barred and locked for none to see so you may never leave it's just like a lie does not exist unless there's someone to believe yes i know, i know that time moves on walk along and toss aside the evidence of your own lie to forget the past and live tomorrow as a brand new day not focused on yesterday it can never last but if you don't believe in yesterday there won't be another day to be left behind blinders only rose your view the skeptic's criticism's leaving you and, as all, you're blind yes i know, i know that time moves on -March 1993

TAKE THE SUN AND SING ...and another passerby eclectic, without wearing hats he goes into town he's scraping by on what he has and that's not much mrs. green is washing windows for her christmas day, so long and it rains so hard that the other side is fading and i can't tell what the signs read it's as dim as a fireplace burnt out the sky, it crumbles landing in my two hands where's your payment? i said that i was tapped out for the fall greed is money and the grass is growing greener over there the grey cloud's bursting drenching us with all the tears from up above and this hole in my wall is growing well, i don't know what to say my silence is my only solace don't make me speak when i have nothing to say and she'll take the sun and sing but i'd never know the tune that she sang to me back then i'll hum my own melody yeah, she'll take the sun and sing but i could not care less just leave me be, just leave me alone just leave me the fuck alone there goes that man who begged me for my change though i had none here comes the sun burning brighter if i could sleep, to sleep, to sleep i'd sleep a quarter century in red the plate glass window is breaking, pane by pane so i pick up my pieces of a broken yesterday wake up! your dream is over tell me what's going on the sun is taken sing a song, a futile hymn the sun is taken but if you ask me i don't believe it... -12/11/92

Anna Gold 06:36
ANNA GOLD tell me a story of long ago let your words fall down like rain to an empty bottle, to catch the wind of this message carved against the grain of a sunny day what sort of secrets have you in your head your curtain falls on an empty stage the biased words of the madman reaches the twisted bars of his empty cage on the darkest day daylight comes and daybreak goes it's a shame for anna gold cross the seaway - drown the pride and sleep on the summer floor breathe the air in your wooden chair burning the midnight oil daylight comes and daybreak goes it's a shame for anna gold a thousand monks pay respect to your silence what did you think, when they passed your way? tired smiles, look past your window too sick to feel too much to say on a rainy day daylight comes and daybreak goes it's a shame for anna gold close your eyes and sleep away your tenure on the summer floor curse the green and grace the skies burning the midnight oil daylight comes and daybreak goes it's a shame for anna gold i walk alone - the river's falling i lie awake and hear my mother calling i walk alone - i lie awake tell me a story of long ago when your visions fell down like rain to broken bottles and twisted windows betray the message carved against the grain of a sunny day i walk alone - the river's falling i lie awake and hear my mother calling i walk alone - i lie awake i walk alone - i lie awake daylight comes and daybreak goes it's a shame for anna gold i say my peace and close the door for the girl on the summer floor seasons shift - another rift burning the midnight oil daylight comes and daybreak goes it's a shame for anna gold stealing anna's gold... -April 1994

LET THE DEAL GO DOWN i know you you're not so new around town hiding your image in your wedding gown you got candy in your blood and a palace full of whores all tied up and twisted and begging me for more your hair shines like the gold that you stole for me sugar shaker meltdown hanging someone else's tree i swung my bat and cradled you how could you ever fall? after everything i did for you you ain't got no will at all and i want you to and i need you to so why won't you believe me and let this deal go down masquerade as solar flares i always held you up so high you're always crashing down on me as if you could ever fly i stuffed your pants with pennies and i filled your head with dreams without me, you're alone it's not as simple as it seems and i want you to and i need you to so why won't you believe me and let this deal go down you says it's sick, the way i suck on you and bleed you dry sugar rush or ignorance? suspended in the sky kiss me one, you're mine for life however long that it may be so fragile on the brink of death it doesn't matter much to me and i want you to and i need you to so why won't you believe me and let this deal go down -May 1994

CRY (what do you know?) if you cry don't make me feel hollow if you cry, cry, cry i won't be there and if you die don't wait for me to follow if you die, die, die i won't be there when you call if you sigh don't look to me for sorrow if you sigh, sigh, sigh i won't be there and if you lie don't think about tomorrow if you lie, lie, lie i won't be there when you call so what do you know? not much now and you cried when you said that you were coming home and you lied when you said that you were leaving home around and around and around and around i know you'd go and you cried so i am never coming home when you call so what do you know? not much now -April 1993

about

Carpe Diem did not gig often, and we did not record often either, but we played together all the time. At this point, all three of us had lived in the same house for about six months, and Kevin was fully integrated into the band. Our next step was to record a demo, which we did in January 1996 (this recording is available elsewhere in this collection, under the title "Against The Grain Of A Sunny Day"). The idea, of course, was to use the demo to get gigs and, eventually, achieve world domination. Obviously that didn't happen but we still had fun on the trip we were on. This particular session was a test run for the demo and featured a few of the songs that we would record in Richmond and is a pretty accurate portrait of Carpe Diem at this point in time.

While I am grateful for the wealth of audio that does exist of Carpe Diem, I really wish we rolled tape more often. What you hear here is a prime example of what we pulled off on a daily basis. It is a shame that we never actually got our shit together. One of my prime regrets. Fortunately there are memories and recordings such as this.

about

Chris Anderson - BG Alexandria, Virginia

Bootleg Records is my way of organizing recordings that wouldn't be considered for release on the Flying Dachshund Music label. Songwriting demos, outtakes, live sets, band projects, pseudonym projects, and experimental sessions are what can be found on the BG label, The kind of stuff that would be bootlegged. What started out in 2005 as a limited run of 20 titles has grown to 200 and counting.... ... more
